Intermission

Filed under: String Theory — Super Monkey @ 8:51 pm

I’ll sort out the second part of my day out some other time. It’s best to keep people wanting more, which is handy because I’m pretty lazy.

This week I knitted socks with my Chameleon Evolution. This stuff is weird. It’s merino that’s been stretched so it has the same micron count as cashmere. Now it’s not quite as soft as cashmere, but it has a definite flump to it. Also a plump. But the skeins are skimpy so you want to be using a toe up pattern methinks. Which is what I did, so that’s good.

The pattern is Yarn Over Cable from SKS. I like being a growed up and buying plain yarn. It means I can use a stitch pattern without having a hissy fit and restarting five times. I recommend it. Saying that, I did end up buying some variegated sock yarn at the SnB, but that’s not important right now.

I really like this yarn. My feet feel cuddled. It’s thick and warm and yum, and it’s got a silky sheen to it.

And this is the yarn I got at the SnB…

…is Easy Knits, and I know I promised Northern Monkey that I would never again buy variegated sock yarn, but they were handing out little ginger bread men. What was I supposed to do? The yarn is considerably less blurry in real life. It’s a good thick squishy BFL, and it came with a free pattern. The Professor assures me the ginger bread man was tasty and met a swift end.  And I did only buy one skein for me.  I bought THREE lots of yarn for other people and only one for me.  Is it any wonder I rebelled?

I had a bit of a play with my wheel too. I’ve been spinning up a pile of BFL to aran weight, and I got bored with the endless cream. It’s lovely stuff, and I think I’ll get some natural brown to go with it and knit up a blanket, but egads it’s boring. And I’ve still got another kilo of the bloody stuff to get through. What was I thinking?

So I switched to a smaller whorl and started spinning up some of what I bought in the summer from Wingham. I’d forgotten buying such vibrant stuff. I must have had a touch too much sun.

It reminds me a bit of frazzles.

It’s fun to spin though. Makes a change from all those endless metres of bland. I’ve only got 100g of it, so I’ll probably only have enough to make a scarf. A bright orange scarf. For scaring small children with.

Ess Enn Bee

Filed under: String Theory — Super Monkey @ 11:48 am

Last Saturday I did journey to London with Badger and the Princess of Pie to see the fair Lady Stoller in her glittery cave of wonders. We were all very excited, as you can see.

But the fair Lady Stoller was a bit more afeared, though she hid it well.

There were some unexpected stalls in the cave of treasures so I was able to get me some warm woollen pants to protect against the chill of the November frosts.

As well as something a little bit saucier for the party season.

I got a new hat.

Made a new friend.

And learnt something new.

It wasn’t long though before I was mobbed by my adoring fans. I’ve come to expect this sort of thing now, and I don’t mind pandering to the needs of the little people.

The Natural Dye Studio were angling for me to so some modelling work for them, but it would be unethical of me to favour one shop over another. It would utterly destroy the competition. I told them this, but they didn’t take it well. Tantrums can be such ugly things.

Ahh, Fyberspates. Home of the neverending skein. I’ve finished Wisp and shall post a photo in a mo. I weighed the skein and yet again I’ve got more yarn left than the project used. I think I’ll knit a blanket out of it next to test the full power of the magic.

The Knitwitches ADORE me. Do you see that look of purest bliss? DO YOU?

Here we have the naughty half of IKnit that forgot to bring my yarn with him. VERY NORTY! But I suppose they did organise the snb day so I’ll let him off. This time.

And last, but not least, we have the fair Erqsome. It was quite an honour for her to meet me because I am so very great indeed. See the joy in her eyes. It will be the high point of her life.

My day out in London didn’t end there, but this post will. Nearly. I’ll finish it up later in the week. I don’t want to get you over excited before bed time.

My lastest photo of the day is my Wisp. It was my cunning plan to use up the remains of my Fyberspate laceweight.

I have more than enough yarn leftover to make another one, but I don’t want another one, and I haven’t decided if I’m adding buttons yet, or doing that thing with the ribbons, or just leaving it as is. So I’ve put it to one side and now I’m making some socks instead.

Sockaway

Filed under: String Theory — Super Monkey @ 6:05 pm

As mentioned previously, I have knitted too small a pair of socks.  We discovered yesterday that they do not fit the Badger.  She’s a UK 3, so I figure at this point we’re probably looking at them fitting young girly feet, but I’m not wise in the ways of kiddies and their feet.

They’re Lorna’s Laces in Somerset and I confess to them going a bit wiggy at one point, but I’m not saying where.  They’re 22cm toe to heel, but they’re skinny.  Skinny skinny skinny.  And I’m lazy.  Lazy lazy lazy.  So if you’re reading this and you have a daughter, neice, cousin, chimney sweep with skinny feet who deserves a pressie lemme know and you can have them.  If they don’t fit then you can pass them on again until they end up on the right feet.  Or the left feet.  I’m not fussy.

Poncho? I see no poncho!

Filed under: String Theory — Super Monkey @ 8:31 pm

No. Honestly. The book says it’s a mananita and a mananita isn’t a poncho, so I really didn’t do anything wrong at all. Not a thing. Nubbin.

Coz ponchos are evil, but this is just a lacy shawl with a hole in the middle. Completely different really.

There’s certainly no need to phone the fashion police or anything.

I might give it to someone for Crimbo to dispose of the evidence.

I used my Fyberspates laceweight what I got at Ally Pally, and it appears to be some sort of neverending skein, so I’ve cast on for Wisp from Knitty with the leftovers.

It’s not very impressive at the moment, but it will be one of those miraculous knits that suddenly looks lovely once you’ve blocked it. Maybe.

But enough of the boring stuff. LOOK AT THIS!

ELVIS HAS PEZZED THE BUILDING!

This arrived as part of my (belated) birthday pressie from a friendly Amerikanean bearded birdie. So…opening the box. Sacrilegious or sacrilicious?

Peruvia

Filed under: String Theory — Super Monkey @ 6:33 pm

The Professor’s monkey mum has returned from the land of Peruvia with yarny tribute to my greatness!

So soft! So flumpy! So why isn’t the stuff we get over here like this? They’re keeping the good stuff for themselves I tell thee! I can’t read Peruvian but the label says En Exclusiva Para Liverpool. LIVERPOOL? Is this a northern conspiracy I see before me? Is this the first step in their plans to establish a Peruvipool/Liveruvia axis of evil?

NOT ON MY WATCH!

I have been knitting some red messy stuff. It’s not a poncho or nubbin and if anyone tells you I’ve been knitting a poncho, well they’re lying. My enemies would say anything to discredit me.
